Payment tracking software for small shops
Ignore anything that leads with AI insights, social feeds, or multi-branch warehouses. A small shop needs: a customer list, credit sales, verified payments, stock counts, and a way for the customer to see the same number. If the tool cannot do those five, it is not payment tracking software for small business. It is a demo. Indian shopkeepers already proved they will not pay for a digital notebook that only replaces the bahi. They pay for billing and for a ledger that collects.
The five things, in order
A customer list with a village and a phone is the index. Credit sales as line items, not as a running total you type over, are the book. Payments that stay pending until a UPI screenshot is confirmed are the control. Stock on the twenty SKUs you actually count is the shelf. An export (CSV, invoice, receipt) is how the accountant and the customer both leave with the same rupees. Everything else is optional: nearest-due on a walk, a public catalog that never shows balances, a pay link for someone who will not visit.
A dashboard of charts is not on that list. Neither is a team seat for a shop with one owner. Neither is gold-rate content, a feed, or a miniprogram that wants a download before it will show a due. Browser-first matters because a shopkeeper will try a page on the phone before they install anything. Native apps can come after, on the same backend, so the laptop and the counter do not drift.
What “verified payments” actually means
Cash you can mark paid. UPI you cannot, not from a spoken “I sent it.” The software has to hold the payment as pending, take a screenshot, and let you confirm or decline. Failed attempts stay in history. If the product skips that and writes paid on a webhook you do not understand, you will argue about money that never arrived. That is the feature paper never had, and it is the one worth paying for if you pay at all.
Price it like billing, give the khata away
A ledger replaces a notebook the shop already owns. A GST invoice is a deadline. Software that charges for the notebook and gives away the bill is backwards for this market. Look at what is free forever (dues, reminders, UPI collection) and what is paid (invoices, receipts, extra users). If the pricing page cannot say that in one screen, keep walking.
